East Asian Law Department

An introduction to the East Asian Law Department of the Gallagher Law Library at University of Washington School of Law


The library has an extensive East Asian law collection. According to a recent count (March 2019), our Library holds approximately 22,332 titles and 55,616 physical items (a count that includes all volumes of multi-volume sets and serials) on topics related to the legal systems in China, Japan, Korea and the Republic of China (Taiwan). Of those, there are approximately 11,921 titles and 34,777 items on Japan, 6,593 titles and 11,775 items on China, 1,499 titles and 4187 items on the Republic of China, and 2,319 titles and 4,873 items on Korea.

The library also subscribes to important online resources for East Asian legal research, with full-text access to many court decisions, statutes and journal articles. For more information, click the Legal Research Guides link.
